Dog bed napping and a diaper-less baby
I am in charge of two small children on this here New Year Day. We’ve been flirting with naps since 2pm and now - 5pm - I have one 3.5-yo asleep in a dog bed in a nest of dolls and socks from a torn-open jumbo pack belonging to her mother, and one 1.5-yo doing diaper-less gymnastics in his father’s favorite arm chair because he keeps taking his own diaper off and he has loud feelings about staying in that chair, so that’s what’s happening now. Dinner and bedtime should be a breeze!
Today I have 1,666 alcohol-free days. How about them apples! I get to be here with these little monsters on this New Year’s Day because of that one day- the day I finally fell into the exhaustion and fear of keeping up the double life of a high functioning addict. These kids have only ever known me as their sober auntie- what a beautiful thing! Not that that inspires naps or avoids accidents.. but it is LIFE, and I am here for it all!
